ENSLEY

In 2020, Bristol Harbor Group, Inc. (BHGI) was tasked through an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Philadelphia District, Marine Design Center (MDC) to develop a complete design package for a new floating drydock for the Ensley Engineer Yard in Memphis, TN. The new drydock has a lifting capacity of 1000 long-tons and will replace an aging, 400-ton drydock. BHGI worked with MDC and the operators of the existing dock to develop a new design that met the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) class requirements. In 2020, BHGI visited the Ensley yard to gain insight on the operational and functional requirements of the dock. BHGI initially generated a design that met the scope requirements, but ultimately would prove to be too costly to build. A detailed cost analysis was provided discussing the variety of structural and arrangement options in an effort to keep the dock within budget and maintain as much capacity as possible. The final size, ballasting arrangement, and lifting capacity was determined after a series of design iterations taken into consideration.
