Marine engineering focuses on a vessel’s machinery and auxiliary systems. This includes main and auxiliary prime movers (engines), generators, electrical systems, cargo systems (including pumps), ballast systems, fire main systems, potable water systems, sewage systems, and related equipment. Marine engineers primarily design and specify equipment located in the main engine room and auxiliary machinery spaces, as well as systems found throughout a vessel.
