NPS Liberty & Ellis Island Vessel
Bristol Harbor Group, Inc. (BHGI) was tasked by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Marine Design Center to develop a design for a workboat for the National Park Service (NPS) to provide a multipurpose vessel for the Statue of Liberty Monument and Ellis Island. The design is based on a previous design for a debris collector vessel, the REYNOLDS, which is a 60’ x 22’ conventional steel, twin screw workboat. The new ANNIE MOORE will be 75' x 24'. Additionally, the main engines and generators for the ANNIE MOORE are compliant with modern emission requirements and a custom, ice capable, propeller was designed for the vessel to improve ice operations and overall propulsive efficiency. To accomplish these requirements, the hull and appendages were modeled in a computational fluid dynamics program, to maximize operations in ice, minimize vibration, provide maximum power over the entire operational speed range and to maximize astern performance.
